Scott Sykowski — FAQ

What do you do?

Architect and build investment-management technology — portfolio analytics, risk, performance, accounting, data infrastructure. Thirty years' specialization in credit and structured derivatives. Currently Managing Partner of Gyre Research and Board Member of Gyre Holdings.

Who do you work with?

Hedge funds, RIAs, family offices, and boutique asset managers. Asset-management technology vendors (PMS, OMS, accounting, performance, risk) seeking domain advisory or new-product development. Allocators evaluating manager technology as part of due diligence.

What's your engagement shape?

Discovery (1–2 weeks, written assessment), Design (2–4 weeks, build plan with milestones), Build oversight (variable, the working system as deliverable). Retainer or fixed scope; not hourly. See llms-full.txt for detail.

Are you a registered investment advisor?

No. I am not a retail investment advisor. The work is investment-technology and quantitative research, not investment management for retail clients.

What technology stack do you actually use?

Python (NumPy, Pandas, Polars, PyTorch, scikit-learn, statsmodels, QuantLib). Java and Node.js for low-latency services. C# / .NET on the buy-side desktop. SQL: MSSQL, PostgreSQL, kdb+/q. Protocols: FIX 4.x / 5.x, REST, gRPC. Messaging: Kafka, Redis. Linux. (Full list at llms.txt.)

What about AI / ML?

Applied across portfolio construction (sparse replication, risk-parity variants), execution (optimal block, VWAP/TWAP), reconciliation (LLM document parsing of custodian statements and corporate-action notices), and research triage (sentiment from filings and news). The question is rarely can a model learn this? — it is what data, loss function, and guardrails make the answer trustable inside an investment process?

Are you taking on new engagements?

Selectively. Engagements where 30 years of asset-class and accounting nuance is decisive are a fit; generic technology strategy work is not.

What's the connection to Career Launch?

Career Launch is a Gyre Holdings Media-group product (career coaching for recent graduates). It's a sister entity within the holding company, not directly part of my day-to-day work. https://careerlaunch.now/.

How do I reach you?

Through Gyre Research's contact form for platform/engagement inquiries. Through Gyre Holdings (phone 800-933-4731) for corporate matters.

Where can I report a security issue?

See .well-known/security.txt for the contact and disclosure policy.
